LGBTQ+ experiences of menopause are strikingly under-represented in mainstream menopause discussions, often leaving individuals feeling overlooked and isolated. In response, we've partnered with Iris Prize Outreach to create a compelling short film that documents some of the distinctive and unique menopause experiences within the LGBTQ+ community.
The ‘Rainbow Menopause’ initiative aims to enrich public dialogue, making menopause discussions more inclusive and relatable. By featuring real-life perspectives from people across Wales and incorporating expert insights from academics and health professionals, our film encourages open conversation and increased awareness. Remember though, while our film is informative, it is not a substitute for professional advice.
We recognize that our film cannot represent every experience, but we are immensely grateful to those who shared their personal stories, helping to break the silence around menopause. We hope it will urge viewers to seek support and share their own menopause journeys without shame.

If cis women think they have a hard time through menopause, the pathway, and hormone options are even more challenging for non-binary and trans. A lack of peer affinity can add to feelings of isolation. Having a clinician that is properly trained on how to respond sensitivity, appropriately and inclusively is vital to helping everyone navigate their menopause, in all its glorious (and sometimes muted) colours!
