Menopause and Menstrual Health Campaigns & Petitions

  • Fund free HRT on the NHS for women experiencing the menopause

Women who go through the menopause should not to have to pay for Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) medication. I was shocked as I thought this would have been free for all women. The Government needs to make change so HRT is free!

  • Remove the VAT on Period Pants

    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/578081

Perimenopause can mean heavy bleeding and flooding for some. We need a choice of products, period pants may be more acessible for people with restricted movement or disabilities for example.

In January 2021 the UK Government abolished the VAT on menstrual products, but failed to include period pants which continue to be taxed at 20% because the Government classifies them as a garment. The tax code must be brought up to date in line with products like tampons, pads, and menstrual cups.

  • Make Menopause Matter

  • Require employers with more than 250 employees to introduce a Menopause Policy

    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/580951
According to the Government Report on Menopause, ‘menopausal women are the fastest growing workforce demographic’. The average age for a woman to go through menopause is 51. The average age of female suicide is between 45 & 49.

Nearly 8 out of 10 of menopausal women are in work.

Many line managers say that they don’t feel confident talking about menopause. They don’t know enough about it or how they can help. A Government-commissioned report on menopause highlights the need for employers to put in place training, processes and information so all colleagues have a clear understanding of menopause. Whether it’s a policy or guidance document – it’s best if it’s written down and well publicised. A written Menopause policy for all large employers would be a significant step.
